Reviews Barnes & NobleYoung ladies, get ready for some new eye candy. Teen quartet B2K (J-Boog, Raz-B, Lil Fizz, and Omarion) are vying for a place in your hearts and on the charts with their lively, self-titled debut -- featuring the hit single "Uh Huh." Tracy E. Hopkins
All Music Guide Epic Records definitely did its homework before unleashing B2K into the pop market. The boy band of clean-cut and suave young black men is everything a marketing department dreams about: attractive teens-becoming-men who make the girls melt with a little bit of a rugged, tough-guy attitude and flashy clothes. Of course, there are also the dance beats that are as much dance-pop as hip-hop; in fact, you might even wager a bet that the many producers and songwriters on this album had been listening to a bit of Craig David and other British 2-step pop stars. Plus, the group members are capable singers as well, which is another bonus. Overall, with the girl-magnet looks, the trendy radio-ready production, and the limitless vocal hooks, Epic Records has all the makings of pop stardom in B2K, including a market-testing hit single in "Uh Huh" that set the stage for the group's debut album. B2K, a self-titled album, gets off to a good start, jumping right into some of its best songs -- "Gots ta Be," "Understanding," and "Why I Love You" -- before unleashing the album highlight, the aforementioned "Uh Huh." From there, the album gets progressively long-winded, running through 17 songs in total, none of them overly distinct. Of course, that's the nature of pop albums, particularly boy band albums, and B2K definitely follows in the grand tradition of its predecessors: Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Blackstreet, and Bell Biv Devoe. On this page I'll include reviews of the shows I've seen by this band, both recently and in years past. I'll also include reviews that others send me.
Here's an example of a format I might use:
Reviews: B2K.......B2K what can I say.......... Rating: You know what really made me buy this album, track #2.I really loved that song.I had bought "B2K Live At The House Of Blues" dvd,and I heard this song at the end of the dvd,and I really loved it,so I had bought the cd.And the second reason I bought the cd was to hear RAZ-B's voice,(on #9 "Come On")which you rarely hear.So I just had to get it.And he sounded good too!!!That's why I don't understand why they won't let him sing lead sometimes.JC does in N'sync,Jermaine does in the Jackson 5,so why can't Raz-b do his thing! But anyway the cd is good.I liked the fact (for their debut cd), they put the lyrics to their songs on the cd book. But the cd is very much party-like.#'s 2,6,7,9,13,16 & 17 are good. Now if you had their single before the actual album came out,you might get sick of #4 "UH HUH",#10 "Hey Little Lady",#12 "Baby Girl", and #1 "Gots ta be".Cause I know I definetly skip over them, especially "UH-HUH"!I do like "Why I Love You",even though that and "Gots ta be" has been played over the radio continuously. But if your a B2K fan pick it up.But if your looking for harmony and true singing (your not going to get it here),pick up BoyziiMen or even the Jackson 5 for goodness sake. Now those boys can sing!
B2K the hottest group out now... (The Next Boys II Men) Rating: For their first CD b2k is acting like it is there 5th CD.. and with songs like "Gots Ta Be" and "Uh Huh" they are promising you for a great run for the future.. the CD also features "B2k Is Hot" and "Understanding" both of which can be singles... "Understanding" is a song which B2K gives the bothers a anthem in finding a girl.. "B2K is Hot" even tho the name is corny the song is hot and it could be the next single.... But one of my favorite songs is "Fantasy" which B2K describes that this girl at there school is so hot and they really want her... *"Why I Love You" is my favorite song on here and it is the 3rd single of the album and the last. The song describes how there girls kepts them on lockdown... "I'm Not Finshed" is a very emotional song an says that i'm not finshed loving U... well I really recommend this CD and if you buy it U will not be disappointed... 1.
Top 3
1)Why I Love You 2)Gots Ta Be 3)Fantasy and Understanding
you call this talent? this is from from talent. Rating: B2K have no talent no matter how much people try to convince me. i'm only 15, but i've stayed as far away as i can from this mindless drivel every since n'sync came onto the scene. i've never been into what's "in" in music. people always tell me i have no taste in music because the beats in my album are not "danceable" and i listen to "old" music. screw dance beats. beats are important for a real band (ones that play instruments, i'm sure all you teenyboppers have never heard of that kind of band before). because that's what keeps the band together. i go to concerts to rock, not to swoon over how hot some guy is. all it takes in music today is a pretty face and a drum machine to make it big, not talent. it's also about money, and not passion for music. the independant record labels (adeline records, fat wreck records ect., all sign bands that have talent. oh btw, these are all punk labels, so i suggest you stay away from them. i guess your mom might think those labels sign "scary bands". i'm done ranting...i'm going to listen to my good music now. rancid rules...
December 12, Paradise Rock Club, Boston
This was a hit and miss show. Ben kept complaining that his voice was hurting, and it was clear he was having trouble hitting the notes on the ballads. Great version of "Philosophy," though, and the band did a funny, rocking version of the "Rockford Files" theme after "Battle of Who Could Care Less" (it really must be one of Ben's favorite shows!).
